AMSOIL Magazine - September Edition
In this month’s edition of the AMSOIL Magazine, AMSOIL explains how low-volatility motor oil helps unlock vehicle performance. To meet today’s strict motor oil specifications and adequately protect modern engines, motor oils must demonstrate increased resistance to volatility. The most common method used in measuring oil volatility is the NOACK Volatility Test, which thirty years ago AMSOIL became the first oil manufacturer in the United States to use the NOACK Volatility Test (ASTM D5800) as a measure of performance excellence.
Also in this month’s edition, Dan Peterson, Vice President – Technical Development, talks about built in additives and how they improve motor oil performance. While there are many different components in a motor oil, there are two fundamental categories: base oils and additives, and additives make up as much as 30 percent of the motor oil’s formulation. Turn to page 9 to learn about some of the common additives found in motor oils.
