This issue of the AMSOIL magazine has an article by the Director of Product Marketing, Alex Thompson, on formulations required to provide optimum performance in lubrication. Lubrication provides so many functions and benefits in addition to simply reducing friction, which is what most people would assume. It is important to choose an engine oil or other lubricant that also excels at tasks such as transferring energy, keeping components clean and cool, sealing out contaminants, dampening shock, and protection against corrosion. Pages 8-9 has an article on timing chain protection. Timing chains provide mechanical linkage that ensures all moving parts are working perfectly. It connects the camshaft which controls opening and closing of the valves to the crankshaft which is attached to the pistons. Factors such as soot in the motor oil can cause the chain to stretch which could lead to issues in the engine. To prevent this, proper lubrication and friction is key, which is why it is important to have AMSOIL protection for this and other elements of your equipment.
